Inner Goddess Anti-Aging Facial Oil
(Scroll down to 'The Bottom Line/Ingredients' if you'd rather not read the full description.)
If you haven't tried a facial oil yet, you don't know what you're missing!
There are many different plant, tree, seed, and nut oils that have beneficial properties for all skin and hair types (I'm going to focus on skin right now).
It's important to choose oils that are appropriate for your skin type and needs. Furthermore, although a single oil may provide a multitude of benefits, using a blend of appropriate oils in the right amounts is the best way to provide the results you desire.
Besides the many different skin benefits that each oil provides, they also have their own unique colors, scents, and consistency. For example, Pomegranate Oil (one of the oils in Inner Goddess Anti-Aging Facial Oil) is an incredible anti-aging oil that has moisturizing and skin-softening properties. It is believed to regenerate and repair skin, and reduce and prevent the appearance of wrinkles.
However, Pomegranate Oil is VERY thick! It's definitely not an oil that you would apply on your face by itself. Ideally, it would be used in a smaller quantity as part of a multi-oil blend, to work with other oils that aren't as thick. This creates a facial oil with the proper consistency that glides nicely onto delicate facial skin.
Remember, also, that the right facial oil that addresses a certain skin type should also contain a blend of oils that are chosen because each oil's properties mesh nicely with the others in the blend.
Additionally, some facial oil blends have added essential oils that are known to have specific skin-enhancing properties. Essential oils, if added as ingredients in a facial oil, need to be added in the correct concentration, and formulated by someone who has experience working with them
I formulated my Inner Goddess Anti-Aging Facial Oil with all these things in mind, carefully choosing the blend of oils that would "make the cut!"
Inner Goddess contains 9 different carrier oils, plus a blend of 3 essential oils, plus Vitamin E oil (13 oils total!) that are focused on benefiting dry, mature, and aging skin.
Four of the oils I chose each contain significant quantities of ceramides. Ceramides are basically the "glue" that holds our skin cells together. They are fatty acids located in the surface layer of the skin that act as a barrier against anything harmful getting in and limits the loss of water through the skin. Up to nine different ceramides have been identified in the skin.
As we age, this "glue" diminishes, resulting in skin that starts to sag and lose its firmness. In fact, I read that ceramide levels in our skin drop with age and by the time we're in our 30s, we've lost about 40% of our skin’s ceramides. By our 40s, we've lost a whopping 60%! Using products that contain significant amounts of ceramides are important to help skin regain some of its firmness and elasticity.
Furthermore, a Japanese study showed that with regular use of products containing ceramides, skin moisture content increased more than 100%!
And, if we want our ceramides to be REALLY effective, it's important to pair them with other fats. This recommendation is based on recent research that has shown that the three components critical to skin-barrier repair (ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids), although beneficial when used alone, actually work better together.
With this in mind, I made sure that Inner Goddess contained not only oils with significant amounts of ceramides, but also oils with a high fatty acid profile.
Additionally, the Inner Goddess blend contains oils rich in various B vitamins, vitamins C, E, and A, antioxidants, and other properties required in an anti-aging facial product.
The essential oil blend in Inner Goddess contains the following: Frankincense (strengthens skin and improves its tone, elasticity, and defense mechanisms against bacteria and blemishes); Helichrysum (contains anti-microbial, antibiotic and regenerative compounds); and Geranium (eliminates dead cells, tightens, and promotes skin regeneration).
Bottom Line:
Facial oils were used as far back as Ancient Egypt to achieve flawless, glowing skin. They've made a comeback and are now being recognized as the likely missing step in our beauty routines.
The benefits of using the right blends of oils for your skin's needs are many, including reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; a more effective moisturizer for dry skin than standard lotions and creams; and incredibly effective skin protection from environmental toxins.
Inner Goddess Anti-Aging Facial Oil contains a blend of 9 oils with anti-aging properties, as well as an added blend of 3 essential oils, and a touch of organic vitamin E oil - all known skin enhancers.
Although Inner Goddess can be used alone, if using as part of a skin care regimen, the following order of product application should be followed: Hyaluronic Acid Serum first on damp, freshly washed skin; moisturizing cream or lotion next; and then Inner Goddess Anti-Aging Facial Oil (be sure to "pat" the oil on your face, and not rub in as you would your other facial products).
